What is the Church?

Jesus loves the church. He died and rose again for the church that he is building (Ephesians 5:25). He promised that the gates of hell would not prevail against her (Matthew 16:18). But what is the church? We don't have to look far to see that the church is often deeply flawed and sinful. Still, what is God cleansing and calling the church to be?
